I ended up with good photos from the rest of the Colorado portion as well. These photos didn’t seem to fit into my other posts…
Another good lesson learned here. We found a campsite in the woods between Durango and Silverton. Hermosa Creek Road runs quite a ways back into the mountains and had numerous places to camp though due to a holiday week was pretty full. We were still able to find a spot and stay two nights. The photo above is heavily cropped. I’m learning how to actually notice or see what catches my eye about a scene.
We stumbled across a few good spots in looking for campsites. The Woods Lake Campground was hot and had very little shade. It wasn’t a good fit for two nights with toddlers and dogs. We opted to move on and look for something better (Mary E Campground) but took a quick hike around Woods Lake itself before driving on.
I had read about last dollar road before embarking on our journey. Supposedly it had some of the best views in the state and was very popular among photographers for sunset shots. All campsites at the overlook were taken (unsurprisingly) but the view was magnificent. Although I didn’t get a sunset shot, I really like this photo because it shows that you can wake up to this view no matter what you can afford. Whether it’s a bright orange tent or a large house on top of a mountain (left side of photo) you can have your morning coffee looking at this.

Wow! Are you certain that you don’t work as a photographer for a travel magazine? These are beautiful!
