This one’s a shorty –
A couple of weekends ago I spent sunrise in Green Valley, AZ in an area owned by one of the mines down there. The West Desert Trails area is a spider web of trails that is fairly easy to traverse. It ended up being a bit discouraging for me as I did not return with any hint of a breath-taking photo. This could be because I live in the desert which, to me, is far from breath-taking. However I was able to find a few things that seemed to make for interesting photographs.
I assess my skill with photography composition to be quite low and this outing seemed to rub it in. To do some experimentation and try to learn more about composition, I placed a coffee cup on a table and took 50 different pictures of it. Some with the coffee cup centered, some not, some with just the handle, some with just the lip etc. The exercise felt beneficial to me though the 50 photos did not seem worthy of being included in a blog post. Instead, I’ll just include the photos from that morning at the West Desert Trails area which led me to the composition exercise. Perhaps they will be interesting to others…
