I’ve been pretty slow at these due to time. Thus I’m ready to move off of the Vancouver Island workshop and onto some other things. I’ve got a couple of ideas in mind that will probably turn out to be bad pictures but might help bolster my creativity some. So I’ll wrap up Canada this post and see what I end up trying for the next post!

Nikon Z6 - Tamron 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 @ 107mm - f/13 - 1/60" - ISO100

I took this image with every intention of taking something better. After trying a handful of different angles and settings, I just went with the original. It’s not terribly unique or creative but I do like the color palette. If I ever decorate a bathroom or something in these colors I may get this one printed (though cheaply).

The sea spray in this photo really brings in the depth. I really like the waves that are hitting the rocks and splashing up. I thought a bit of lens blur toward the bottom added a bit of depth so I added that in.

Here’s one looking the same direction but in a slightly different location and, obviously, a different time. The mountains in the distance are the Olympics in Washington state, another place I’d love to visit. I’m a sucker for sunset and sunrise outlines like this. I’ve got another photo from Sequoia National Forest Fire that’s similar. It’s such a cool effect.

Nikon Z6 - Nikkor Z 20mm f/1.8 S @ 20mm - f/10 - 1/100" - ISO800

This one turned out pretty nice, I think. The edit that made me decide it was good enough to be in this post is an exposure increase of an elliptical mask on the bottom center. I feel like that draws the eye into the bottom center of the frame and makes it lead out to the sky pretty nicely.

Nikon Z6 - Tamron 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 @ 285mm - f/7.1 - 1/250" - ISO100

This photo feels like it almost works. I like the seagull and I like that he’s turned the other way also looking at the sunset. Additionally I like that the water is crashing onto the rock next to him. It just feels like something is missing. Perhaps the sky isn’t interesting enough - I’m not sure. This one is close, but not quite there.

The final photo for these posts is not of the beach however it was at the beach. This hidden waterfall is at Sombrio Beach. I wasn’t very sure about how to photograph it so I ended up with a multitude. The challenge here was the sunlight pouring in from the top of the waterfall. I got a few HDR shots but I still wasn’t as happy with those as I am with this one. I like that the log points toward the waterfall. It seems very mysterious back there (and it was).
